PROJECT BACKGROUND
The San Antonio River is the historic lifeline of SanAntonio. It is the origin of the city.
Within downtown San Antonio, the river continues tothrive as the famous River Walk, or Paseo del Rio.
However, an additional 13 miles of urban river existbeyond downtown: upstream to the headwaters at theUniversity of the Incarnate Word and downstream to
the Espada Mission. The collective vision and workof community leaders through the centuries haspreserved the charm of the San Antonio River. This
concept design and Master Plan support the continuedcharting of possibilities for the historic river reaches……
